Antioxidant showdown: can NAC or ALA shield kidneys from colistin harm?
NCT ID NCT06650384
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tested whether two common antioxidants, N-Acetylcysteine and Alpha-Lipoic acid, could prevent kidney damage caused by the strong antibiotic colistin in 180 critically ill adults. Patients received either antioxidant alongside colistin, and researchers tracked kidney function daily. The goal was to see if these supplements could reduce the need for dialysis or dose changes.
