First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether giving N-Acetylcysteine (a supplement) along with multivitamins and minerals can help older adults (60+) recover from a traumatic brain injury. The goal was to see if it reduces thinking, emotional, and physical symptoms like headaches or memory problems. Researchers measured symptoms at the start, after 7 days, and after 30 days.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, safe treatment to reduce post-concussion symptoms in older adults after a traumatic brain injury.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 92 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment may not show clear benefits over standard care.
