Baby beat: does music speed up feeding in preterm infants?

NCT ID NCT07506811

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether playing music at different speeds (slow, medium, or fast) before feeding helps preterm babies reach full feeding sooner. 284 infants will be randomly assigned to one of three music tempos or no music. Researchers will measure feeding time, growth, and hospital stay length.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Music therapy at different tempos (40-50, 60-100, or 110-160 beats per minute)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a specific music tempo helps preterm infants feed sooner and go home earlier.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial. The effect may be small or not work for all babies. Music therapy is safe, but benefits are not guaranteed.
