Music classes for babies: a new way to boost development?

NCT ID NCT05868811

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether weekly music enrichment classes could improve parent-child interaction, reduce motivation for food (a marker for obesity risk), and enhance language development in 9- to 24-month-old infants from low-income families. Eighteen families were randomly assigned to either music classes or play groups for 16 weeks. Researchers measured outcomes through video recordings, questionnaires, and wearable language recorders.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward simple, low-cost programs to support healthy development in at-risk infants.

What could go wrong

This is a very small feasibility study (18 participants) with no phase, so results may not apply broadly. The outcomes are exploratory and may not show clear benefits.
