Iron particles could reveal hidden brain inflammation in MS

NCT ID NCT02511028

Summary

This study tested whether an FDA-approved iron supplement called ferumoxytol could be used as a special dye to make inflammation in the brain show up more clearly on powerful MRI scans. Researchers enrolled 14 adults, some with multiple sclerosis and some healthy, to see if the iron particles safely highlighted areas of inflammation and how long they stayed visible. The goal was to gather information to potentially improve how doctors monitor MS in the future, not to treat the disease itself.
