Precision radiation: MRI scans aim to sharply boost cervical cancer treatment success
NCT ID NCT03005743
Summary
This large study tested whether using detailed MRI scans to guide internal radiation (brachytherapy) is better than the standard method using X-rays for treating advanced cervical cancer. Over 1,000 patients with Stage IIB or IIIB cervical cancer were randomly assigned to receive one of the two guidance methods. The goal was to see if the MRI-based approach could improve local tumor control by 10% and significantly reduce severe side effects to nearby organs like the bladder and rectum.
