New MRI could spare patients from unnecessary kidney surgery

NCT ID NCT07173140

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests whether advanced MRI scans can tell the difference between aggressive and harmless kidney tumors before surgery. Currently, standard scans show tumor size but not type, and biopsies are invasive. Researchers will compare MRI results with tissue removed during surgery in 30 adults with small kidney tumors to see if the scans are accurate and repeatable.
