Better scans could help rectal cancer patients avoid unnecessary surgery

NCT ID NCT07404228

Summary

This study aims to develop better MRI scan methods to predict which rectal cancer patients have completely responded to initial treatment and can safely avoid major surgery. Researchers will analyze MRI data from about 115 patients to create a tool that more accurately detects tiny amounts of remaining cancer. The goal is to help more patients qualify for a 'watch-and-wait' approach instead of surgery, potentially improving their quality of life.
