Bladder cancer breakthrough? MRI may predict chemo success in days

NCT ID NCT07202845

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a special type of MRI (multiparametric MRI) can predict early on if chemotherapy is working for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. 39 participants will get three MRI scans: before chemo, one day after the first dose, and after finishing chemo. The goal is to see if changes in the MRI can tell doctors whether the tumor is shrinking, helping avoid unnecessary delays and toxicity from ineffective treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging (mpMRI)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could allow doctors to quickly tell if chemotherapy is working for bladder cancer patients, enabling them to switch treatments sooner and avoid unnecessary side effects.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study with only 39 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The MRI technique is still experimental and not yet proven to reliably predict outcomes.
