New scan aims to catch 'Silent' heart damage from cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT04044872

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of MRI scan could detect very early signs of heart damage in patients receiving radiation therapy to the chest for cancer. Researchers enrolled a small group of patients with left-sided breast cancer to see if changes in heart cell metabolism, visible on the scan, appear before any other symptoms or functional problems. The goal was to develop a better tool for early detection, which could allow doctors to intervene sooner to protect heart health.
