Sound waves vs. seizures: new ultrasound treatment could offer hope for epilepsy patients
NCT ID NCT07591350
First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether MRI-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) can safely treat adults with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. The treatment uses sound waves to heat and destroy small brain areas causing seizures, without needing open surgery. The goal is to see if the procedure can reach the target temperature and reduce seizures, with 13 participants followed for one year.
