New scan could spot deadly liver bleeding before it happens

NCT ID NCT04867954

Summary

This study is testing a new type of MRI scan to find swollen, fragile veins in the esophagus and stomach of people with advanced liver disease (cirrhosis). These veins can burst and cause fatal bleeding. The goal is to see if this non-invasive scan can accurately identify high-risk veins, potentially reducing the need for uncomfortable scoping procedures. The research will involve about 146 adults with cirrhosis who will undergo the special MRI scan.
