Herbal mouthwash takes on chlorhexidine in gum disease showdown

NCT ID NCT07270952

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed study tested whether a new herbal mouthwash and gel (StellaLife) works as well as the standard chlorhexidine mouthwash for treating gingivitis (early gum disease). 34 healthy adults without gum disease took part. The goal was to see if StellaLife can control plaque and gum inflammation with fewer side effects like taste changes and tooth staining.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

StellaLife mouthwash and oral gel (herbal-based) and chlorhexidine mouthwash

What this could lead to

If StellaLife works as well as chlorhexidine but with fewer side effects, it could offer a gentler option for managing gingivitis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed Phase 4 trial with only 34 healthy adults, so results may not apply to everyone. The herbal product may not be as effective as chlorhexidine.
