Mind over movement: mental rehearsal may help Parkinson's patients regain balance

NCT ID NCT07495462

First seen Apr 01, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding motor imagery—a safe mental practice where you imagine doing movements like walking or standing—to standard physical therapy can improve balance and reduce fear of movement in people with Parkinson's disease. About 42 adults aged 40+ with mild to moderate Parkinson's will be randomly assigned to either standard rehab alone or rehab plus motor imagery for six weeks. Researchers will measure changes in balance, fear of falling, and daily function at the start, end of treatment, and 12 weeks later.
