Talking away fear: new study tests if coaching can boost cervical cancer screening in rural women

NCT ID NCT07540962

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a nursing program that uses motivational interviewing to help rural women feel less afraid of cervical cancer and more willing to get screened. Eighty women aged 30-65 will take part in four weekly one-on-one sessions. Researchers will measure changes in their health beliefs and cancer anxiety before and after the program.

What this could lead to

If successful, this program could offer a simple, low-cost way to encourage more rural women to get screened for cervical cancer, potentially catching it earlier.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, so its impact on actual screening rates is not directly measured.
