Can a 12-week virtual program get latina girls moving more?

NCT ID NCT04736030

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests a 12-week virtual program called Conmigo, designed to help Latina girls aged 8-11 and their mothers become more physically active together. The program includes weekly 1.5-hour sessions with teaching, skill-building, and at least 30 minutes of exercise. Researchers will compare activity levels between families in the program and those on a waitlist to see if the program increases moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Conmigo behavioral program (weekly virtual sessions with physical activity, skill-building, and parenting support)

What this could lead to

If effective, this program could offer a practical, family-based way to increase physical activity and reduce obesity and chronic disease risk in Latina girls.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage study (158 participants) and results may not apply to all families. The program relies on self-report and short-term follow-up, so lasting benefits are uncertain.
