Which trauma score saves more lives? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT06744985

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will enroll 200 multiple trauma patients at a trauma center in Iraq to see which of two scoring systems—the Revised Trauma Score (RTS) or the MGAP score—better predicts who will die or have complications. Patients will be scored upon arrival and followed during their hospital stay. The goal is to improve early identification of high-risk patients, but this is an observational study, not a test of a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors quickly identify which trauma patients are at highest risk of dying, improving emergency care decisions.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only compares existing scoring methods, so it won't directly change patient care. Results may not apply to other hospitals or countries.
