Summary

This study tests whether a single injection of morphine around certain neck nerves can reduce heart muscle damage after a heart attack. About 166 adults who have had a severe heart attack and undergone artery-opening treatment will receive either morphine or a saltwater placebo. Researchers will measure heart damage with MRI and track any serious heart or brain events for 30 days.
