New mammogram aims for sharper images with less radiation
NCT ID NCT07219797
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new mammography machine that uses a special type of X-ray (monochromatic) to produce clear breast images with at least 20% less radiation than standard mammograms. Researchers will compare image quality and the ability to spot breast problems, especially in women with dense breast tissue. The study plans to enroll 52 women aged 40 and older who have had a mammogram before.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Monochromatic x-ray mammography system (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a safer, lower-radiation mammogram that still finds breast cancer effectively, especially in women with dense breast tissue.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device is investigational and may not prove better than current methods.
