New study tests which dental device moves molars best
NCT ID NCT07038902
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two types of dental expanders used to move back molars in people with crowded teeth. One device uses small screws anchored to the bone, while the other relies on the teeth for support. Researchers will use 3D X-rays to measure how much the molars move. The results may help dentists choose the best approach for straightening teeth.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help orthodontists choose the best device for moving molars, potentially reducing treatment time or need for extractions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 24 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and the devices may cause discomfort or temporary bite changes.
