Shorter radiation and watchful waiting could change skin cancer care

NCT ID NCT06998342

First seen Jun 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is for adults with a common type of skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) on the head or neck. After surgery to remove the cancer, some high-risk patients will get a short course of radiation (5 treatments over 2 weeks) to see if it works as well as the standard longer course. Moderate-risk patients will be closely monitored with regular check-ups instead of getting radiation, to see if this is a safe option. The goal is to find effective treatments that are less burdensome for patients.
