New chair trick may make shoulder fix quicker and less painful
NCT ID NCT07301931
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a new method called the modified chair technique for putting a dislocated shoulder back in place. It compared it to the usual traction-counter traction method in 68 adults. The goal was to see which technique works better and causes less pain. The modified chair technique uses the side rail of a stretcher as a fulcrum, aiming to be simpler and more convenient in the emergency room.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Modified chair technique (procedure using stretcher side rail as fulcrum)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a simpler, less painful method for fixing a dislocated shoulder in the emergency room, possibly reducing the need for sedation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 68 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The modified chair technique may not be more effective or safer than the standard method.
