Suture tape vs metal screws: a safer fix for shoulder dislocations?

NCT ID NCT07457931

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two ways to fix a bone graft during shoulder surgery for recurrent dislocations. One method uses metal screws, the other uses high-strength suture tape. The goal is to see if the tape reduces complications like screw irritation or breakage while keeping the shoulder stable. About 80 patients will be followed for 12 months after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Latarjet procedure with either metal screw fixation or suture tape cerclage fixation

What this could lead to

If suture tape works as well as screws with fewer complications, it could become a safer standard option for shoulder instability surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a single-center trial with only 80 patients and 12 months of follow-up. The new technique may not prove superior or could have unforeseen issues.
