Heart valve repair without major surgery? new trial tests minimally invasive clip

Summary
This study is comparing two ways to fix a severe leak in the heart's mitral valve. It is testing a less invasive procedure using a small clip (MitraClip) against traditional open-heart surgery. The goal is to see if the clip procedure works as well as surgery for high-risk patients who are not good candidates for major operations. Patients will be followed for two years to check survival, hospital visits, and whether they need another procedure.
