Scientists probe Mitochondria's role in heart failure

NCT ID NCT05770349

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looks at whether problems with mitochondria—the energy factories inside heart cells—are linked to how heart failure progresses. Researchers will take small heart tissue samples and blood from 45 to 60 people with heart failure and blocked arteries who are having bypass surgery. They will compare the mitochondria's structure with signs of damage in the blood to see if these signs can predict future heart problems.
