New study tests common drug to make fibroid surgery safer

NCT ID NCT07286188

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving misoprostol (a drug often used for other purposes) before hysteroscopic fibroid removal can reduce the amount of fluid that enters the body during surgery. Too much fluid can be dangerous. About 40 women with small fibroids will receive either misoprostol or a placebo rectally before their procedure. The main goal is to see if the drug helps keep fluid levels safer.
