Long-Term heart risks after rare COVID complication in kids under scrutiny

NCT ID NCT07659847

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at heart health in children five years after they had MIS-C, a rare but serious condition linked to COVID-19. Researchers will compare 90 children who had MIS-C with healthy children of the same age and sex. They will use heart imaging, blood vessel checks, exercise tests, and blood markers to see if any hidden heart problems remain.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If this study finds lasting heart issues, it could guide long-term monitoring and care for children after MIS-C.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to all children. It looks for signs of problems, not treatments.
