Mirror trick may ease Post-Stroke pain and swelling

NCT ID NCT07428811

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether task-based mirror therapy can reduce pain, swelling, and improve arm function in stroke survivors who develop shoulder-hand syndrome. Thirty-four participants aged 45-75 will be split into two groups: one doing mirror therapy plus standard exercises, the other doing standard exercises alone, for 30 minutes a day, five days a week, over four weeks. Researchers will measure pain, hand swelling, and arm movement before and after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

task-based mirror therapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease pain and swelling and improve arm movement after a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 34 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is also time-intensive and may not work for all stroke survivors.
