Antibiotic tested as new hope for Tough-to-Treat depression

NCT ID NCT03947827

Summary

This study tested whether adding the antibiotic minocycline to standard antidepressant medication helps people with treatment-resistant depression. In this 12-week trial, 76 adults who hadn't responded well to their current antidepressants were randomly assigned to receive either minocycline or a placebo pill in addition to their usual treatment. The goal was to see if minocycline, which may reduce brain inflammation, could safely improve depression symptoms more than a placebo.
