New surgical technique aims to tame severe spinal curves with fewer risks

NCT ID NCT06367933

Summary

This small pilot study tested a less invasive spinal fusion surgery for children and young adults with severe neuromuscular scoliosis. The goal was to see if this 'mini-invasive' approach could correct the dangerous spinal curve while reducing common surgical risks like heavy bleeding, long operation times, and infections. The study involved a single patient with a severe, non-walking form of scoliosis to gather initial data on safety and effectiveness.
