Single-Incision armpit mastectomy could transform breast cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT07507890
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a new surgical technique for breast cancer called endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy, done through just one small cut in the armpit. The goal is to remove breast tissue while sparing the nipple and avoiding a large scar on the breast. Ten women with early-stage breast cancer will be enrolled to see if the procedure is safe, feasible, and leads to good cosmetic results.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy (a surgical procedure using a camera through a single armpit incision)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a less invasive surgical option for breast cancer patients, potentially leading to faster recovery, less scarring, and better cosmetic outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure may not be feasible for all patients, and there are standard surgical risks like infection or incomplete tumor removal.
