Mindfulness lessons could ease hospital fears for kids

NCT ID NCT07379021

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a mindfulness-based emotion regulation training program can help children aged 7-11 who are hospitalized for at least four days feel less afraid and better control their emotions. Half of the 54 participants will receive the training alongside usual care, while the other half gets only usual care. Researchers will measure changes in emotion regulation and medical fear using standard questionnaires.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
mindfulness-based emotion regulation training
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give hospitalized children a simple, sustainable skill to manage fear and emotions during and after their hospital stay.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 54 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The training's effectiveness depends on children's engagement and may not outperform standard distraction techniques.
