Can a 20-Minute mindful workout sharpen a Child's focus?
NCT ID NCT06270589
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study explores whether a single 20-minute session combining mindfulness with high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can improve executive function—skills like focus and flexibility—in children aged 10 to 12. Participants will try four conditions: mindfulness plus HIIT, mindfulness alone, HIIT alone, and sitting rest. Researchers will measure changes in thinking speed, accuracy, and brain activity using EEG. The goal is to see if the combined approach works better than either practice alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mindfulness-based high-intensity interval training (MF-HIIT)
What this could lead to
If combining mindfulness with HIIT improves children's focus and brain function, it could point toward simple, non-drug ways to boost cognitive performance in school settings.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study in healthy children, so results may not apply to other groups. The effects of a single session may not last or translate to real-world benefits.
