Breathe easy: simple mindfulness exercise may prevent blood pressure drops during C-Section
NCT ID NCT07494955
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 5-minute mindfulness-based breathing exercise, done just before spinal anesthesia, can reduce the common drop in blood pressure and ease anxiety in women having a planned C-section. Half of the 150 participants will do slow, guided breathing (about 6 breaths per minute) while silently repeating a calming phrase; the other half will receive standard care. The main goal is to see if the breathing group has a smaller drop in blood pressure in the first 10 minutes after the spinal injection.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If it works, this simple breathing technique could become a standard, drug-free way to reduce anxiety and blood pressure drops during planned C-sections.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (150 participants) testing a short-term effect. The results may not apply to emergency C-sections or women with certain health conditions.
