Can a mindfulness app supercharge brain stimulation for depression?
NCT ID NCT07369557
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether adding brief guided mindfulness exercises (via a smartphone app) between sessions of accelerated brain stimulation (aiTBS) is feasible and acceptable for people with major depression. Twenty adults already receiving aiTBS as standard care will practice mindfulness for 5-15 minutes at a time over five treatment days. Researchers will track adherence, side effects, and changes in mood and mindfulness up to 12 weeks later.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
guided mindfulness practice via smartphone app
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a way to boost the antidepressant effects of brain stimulation by adding brief mindfulness exercises.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early pilot study (20 people) with no control group, so results may not be generalizable. Meditation-related side effects are possible.
