First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether text message reminders and a built-in gaming feature can encourage Black college men to use a mindfulness app more often. The goal is to reduce risky drinking and stress. Forty participants will use the app for 28 days and complete surveys.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mindfulness smartphone application with text messages and gaming app
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a low-cost, culturally tailored way to help Black college men drink less and manage stress.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 40 participants. It tests engagement, not whether drinking actually decreases. Results may not apply to other groups.
