Sleep drug may ward off Post-Surgery brain fog in seniors
NCT ID NCT06192615
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving a sleep-promoting drug called dexmedetomidine at night can lower the risk of delirium (sudden confusion) in older adults after heart surgery. About 1,800 patients aged 60 and older will receive either the drug or a placebo through an IV or under the tongue. The goal is to see if better sleep helps protect brain function during recovery in the ICU.
