New hope to stop deadly fluid buildup in failing livers

NCT ID NCT07422948

Summary

This study tests if starting a blood pressure medication called midodrine early can better control dangerous fluid buildup in the abdomen (ascites) and prevent related kidney problems in people with sudden worsening of chronic liver failure. Researchers will compare midodrine plus standard care against standard care alone in about 113 patients to see which group has less fluid buildup and fewer complications after 28 days. The goal is to see if this approach stabilizes circulation and protects the kidneys better than current treatments.
