Hidden plastic threat: are tiny particles worsening liver disease?

NCT ID NCT07280390

Summary

This study aims to understand if tiny plastic particles (microplastics and nanoplastics) from pollution, food, and medical procedures build up in the livers of people with cirrhosis. Researchers will compare liver tissue from 30 people with cirrhosis to tissue from people without liver disease to see if these plastics are present and if they are linked to worse liver damage or heart problems. The goal is to gather knowledge about a potential new environmental risk factor for disease progression.
