Can a blood treatment lighten dark gums? new trial investigates
NCT ID NCT07359339
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two methods for reducing dark gum pigmentation: microneedling alone versus microneedling combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Thirty-two adults with dark gums in the front of the mouth will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see if adding PRP leads to greater lightening of the gums, with less pain.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) applied during microneedling
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a more effective way to lighten dark gums using a simple, minimally invasive procedure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The improvement might be minor or not last long.
