Summary
This study tested a new way to monitor patients after rectal surgery for leaks where the bowel is reconnected. A small probe was placed near the surgical connection to measure chemicals in the tissue. The goal was to see if this method could spot leaks earlier than standard tests. 21 adults having rectal surgery took part.
