Can a simple bedside test save sepsis patients from worsening?
NCT ID NCT06910891
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether measuring tiny blood flow (microcirculation) in sepsis patients in the emergency room can help doctors start fluid treatment earlier. Researchers will compare standard care plus these measurements to standard care alone in 556 adults with suspected sepsis. The goal is to see if this extra monitoring reduces the number of patients who get worse or need intensive care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
measurement of peripheral perfusion index and marbling assessment
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help doctors detect hidden blood flow problems in sepsis patients earlier, potentially reducing complications and ICU admissions.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on a diagnostic test, not a treatment. The test may not improve outcomes, and results may not apply to all sepsis patients.
