Scientists use gut bugs to predict cancer treatment results

NCT ID NCT07346729

Summary

This study aimed to see if the types of bacteria in a patient's gut and mouth could help predict how well their rectal cancer would respond to chemotherapy and radiation before surgery. Researchers collected stool and saliva samples from 60 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer before they started treatment. They used machine learning to analyze the bacteria and try to build a model that could forecast treatment outcomes.
