Summary
This study tests a mobile health program designed to reduce HIV-related stigma and improve use of PrEP (a daily pill that prevents HIV) among young transgender women in Thailand. The program includes counseling and stigma-reduction activities delivered via smartphone. Researchers will enroll 108 HIV-negative transgender women aged 18-29 who are not currently using PrEP or are not taking it regularly.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- mobile health program (Mobile Healthy Choices and FRESH) plus standard PrEP counseling
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide an effective way to reduce HIV stigma and increase PrEP use among young transgender women.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with 108 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention relies on self-reported adherence, which can be unreliable.
