Can a phone app help catch Post-C-Section infections in rural rwanda?
NCT ID NCT07369700
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a mobile health tool used by community health workers to follow up with women at home after a C-section. The tool asks about symptoms and takes a photo of the wound to check for infection. Researchers want to see if this approach helps catch complications earlier than the usual advice to return to the hospital. About 1,350 women who had a C-section at a district hospital in Rwanda will take part, with half getting home visits using the tool and half following standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mHealth-CHW tool (a mobile app used by community health workers for home follow-up)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could improve early detection of post-C-section infections and reduce complications in rural areas with limited access to hospitals.
What could go wrong
This is a single-site study in Rwanda, so results may not apply elsewhere. The tool's accuracy depends on the app and community health workers, and it may not reduce complications significantly compared to standard care.
