Meth use may unlock HIV's hiding spots, study hopes

NCT ID NCT07584369

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at how short-term methamphetamine use affects the hidden HIV virus in people who are already on effective HIV treatment. About 20 adults with well-controlled HIV will take oral methamphetamine under medical supervision. Researchers will measure changes in virus activity, immune markers, and inflammation to find new ways to target the hidden virus. The goal is not to treat participants but to gather knowledge that could lead to better HIV therapies in the future.
