New hope for kids in pain: methadone combo may ease transplant suffering
NCT ID NCT06940570
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 37 times
Summary
This study looks at whether adding methadone to standard morphine pain medicine can better control severe mouth pain (mucositis) in children aged 6 to 18 who are getting a stem cell transplant for conditions like leukemia or aplastic anemia. The mouth pain happens because chemotherapy given before the transplant damages healthy mouth cells. The goal is to see if the combination reduces pain scores and the total amount of pain medicine needed while waiting for new donor cells to grow, which takes 6-8 weeks.
