Summary
This study is testing if giving methadone after major spine surgery can help prevent patients from needing opioid painkillers long-term. It will involve 120 adults having spine fusion surgery, who will be randomly assigned to receive either methadone or a placebo pill after their operation. The main goal is to see if this approach is practical and safe, and to gather early data on whether it reduces opioid use three months after surgery.
