Knee surgery patients may get better pain relief with methadone

Summary
This study tests whether giving a single dose of methadone during knee replacement surgery can lower pain and reduce the amount of other opioids needed after the operation. About 162 adults having elective knee replacement will take part. Half will receive methadone and half a placebo, and researchers will compare their pain scores and opioid use in the recovery room.
