One shot for less pain? testing methadone for Kids' tonsil surgery

NCT ID NCT06576830

Summary

This study aims to find out if giving children a single dose of a long-acting opioid (methadone) during tonsil removal surgery provides better and longer-lasting pain relief after the operation compared to standard short-acting opioids. Researchers will enroll 440 children and teens (ages 3-17) and randomly assign them to receive either methadone or the standard pain medication during their procedure. The main goal is to see if the methadone group needs less extra pain medicine in the recovery room and has better pain control overall.
